Amad Diallo was snubbed in Man Utd’s draw.
Manchester United forward Amad has shared a message on social media after being controversially benched for most of Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce. The Reds’ stalemate in Istanbul extended their winless streak in Europe to six games, having won just one of their last 11.
So far in the 2024/25 season, United have drawn against FC Twente and FC Porto and haven’t tasted victory in any European competition since a 1-0 triumph over FC Copenhagen a year ago.
Christian Eriksen gave Erik ten Hag’s side a 1-0 lead at half-time, only for Youssef En-Nesyri to level the score shortly into the second half.
In need of a goal to secure a much-needed victory, the Dutch tactician chose to substitute Marcus Rashford for Antony, leaving Amad glum-faced on the bench.
Ten Hag’s decision to bring on the Brazilian winger in place of Rashford left many United fans disgruntled, with gifted winger Amad once again an afterthought.
The 22-year-old did eventually get some game time, but only after Antony was forced to retire due to injury just 16 minutes after his introduction.
His momentum from an encouraging end to the 2023/24 season and his prominent role in pre-season has diminished during a difficult start to the current campaign.
Following Thursday’s deadlock in Turkey, Amad posted a five-word message on social media, paying homage to United’s supporters for their continued backing.
Amad is finding minutes hard to come by.
“Fans, thank you for your support,” Amad wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The away fans at the Sukru Saracoglou Stadium were held in until 2am, four hours after kick-off. Meanwhile, those supporting from afar and online have continued to call for more opportunities.
Amad has found playing time difficult to come by in recent weeks. Despite shining in the early stages of the season, Ten Hag has kept him on the bench in United’s last two Premier League games.
Many fans are hopeful that he will be given a chance to shine in Sunday’s away match at West Ham United as the visitors eye a fourth league win.
United haven’t won an away game since their 3-0 victory over Southampton on September 14 and currently sit 12th in the Premier League table after eight matches.
The Red Devils face five critical matches in a 15-day period before the November international break, starting with Sunday’s trip to the London Stadium.
Four consecutive matches at Old Trafford follow, representing a good opportunity for Ten Hag to claim some much-needed wins amid intense pressure on his job.
Leicester City visit M16 in the Premier League and Carabao Cup on either side of Chelsea and PAOK. Amad will hope his game time improves over the next two weeks.
