Man Utd could seal two transfers before the deadline.
Manchester United could complete two exciting deals before the summer transfer window slams shut, starting with a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils’ attempts to lure Ugarte away from the Parc des Princes have reportedly been bolstered by Fulham reigniting their interest in Scott McTominay.
According to Sky Sports, Fulham weren’t expected to return to the negotiation table after seeing two bids – the latest worth as much as £20million – rejected.
However, discussions with United are said to have resumed, and the Cottagers are set to submit an improved third offer for McTominay in the coming days.
INEOS have sanctioned five senior sales this summer, raising £60m from offloading Alvaro Fernandez, Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala, Mason Greenwood and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
But Erik ten Hag has also received four new recruits worth a combined £155m – Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
That has left United needing to generate further funds before returning to the transfer market to address Ten Hag’s worrying defensive midfield depth.
Beyond Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro, McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Toby Collyer are the only first-team players capable of operating in a midfield double pivot.
And United are expected to sacrifice McTominay if it offers them an opportunity to acquire a fifth new arrival before August 30.
Man Utd have been linked with Ferdi Kadioglu.
The 27-year-old’s departure would clear a pathway for Ugarte amid PSG’s desire to recoup the £51m they paid Sporting Lisbon for his services last summer.
While United would undoubtedly push to find a compromise and chip down that asking price, the pure profit pocketed from McTominay’s exit could facilitate such a deal.
And the spending potentially wouldn’t stop at Ugarte. Facundo Pellistri is also set to leave on a permanent transfer, while Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Jadon Sancho’s futures remain uncertain.
United have also been linked with a move for Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kalioglu. According to Fotospor, the M16 giants have accelerated their pursuit of the 24-year-old.
Brighton and Hove Albion are considered ahead in the race, having reportedly already tabled a £30m bid and indicated that they were willing to increase the value to £34m.
But Luke Shaw hasn’t been available for United since February, while Tyrell Malacia’s injury absence is about to hit the 15-month milestone.
Diogo Dalot started at left-back in Friday’s 1-0 victory against Fulham, with Mazraoui rushed into the starting lineup on the right just days after joining from Bayern Munich.
The exits of McTominay and one or two other fringe players could make Ugarte and Kadioglu’s Old Trafford arrivals in the next 12 days a reality.
