The Carabao Cup third round draw takes place tonight
The remaining matches of the Carabao Cup second round take place tonight with Manchester United, Arsenal and the Premier League’s other clubs competing in Europe keenly waiting to find out who they will face in their third-round fixtures.
The top-flight’s seven clubs in European competition were all given a bye to round three. Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa are all in the Champions League.
While Manchester United and Tottenham are competing in the Europa League, with Chelsea in the Europa Conference League. The Blues are in Switzerland for the second leg of their play-off match tomorrow to confirm their spot in the group stages.
But before then, Chelsea – and their rivals – will be looking out for who they are paired with in tonight’s draw. The four Champions League and two Europa League clubs will not be able to play each other.
These draw conditions have been brought in to avoid fixture headaches. The Champions League group stages take place the week commencing September 16 while the Europa League groups start the week commencing September 23.
Tuesday night’s action saw five Premier League clubs book their spot in round three with more hopeful of joining them tonight.

Draw conditions explained
The EFL have explained how tonight’s draw will work…
“The round three draw consists of 32 clubs – 25 winners from round two with the seven Premier League Clubs in UEFA competitions also entering in this round.
“The UEFA Conference League, a competition Chelsea could be participating in, is due to begin in October and therefore has no impact on the Carabao Cup round three draw.
“For the main draw, two separate bowls will be utilised:
Bowl 1 – consisting of the six UCL and UEL Clubs
Bowl 2 – consisting of the remaining 26 Clubs
“A pre-draw will take place prior to Nottingham Forest’s round two fixture against Newcastle United to determine the home/away positioning of the six clubs in Bowl 1 for the first six ties of the main draw.
“The main draw will be conducted following the conclusion of the game at the City Ground.
“The first six ties will be drawn by alternating between one club from Bowl 1 and one club from Bowl 2, with the home/away positioning of the club from Bowl 1 already pre-determined in the earlier draw.
“Once the six clubs from Bowl 1 have been drawn, the remaining ten ties will be drawn from Bowl 2 only. From this round of the competition, the draw is no longer split into northern and southern sections.”
