Manchester United icon David de Gea signed a one-year deal with Fiorentina in August
David de Gea’s wife has denied any crisis in the couple’s relationship as she explained they continue to live apart because of work commitments. The goalkeeper met Edurne almost 14 years ago and married her in July 2023, the day he officially left Manchester United.
De Gea spent 12 years with the Red Devils after joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
He helped the team win their 13th Premier League trophy during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign at the helm in 2013 and also won the Europa League, the FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, De Gea lived with Edurne after his contract in England expired but moved to Italy without his wife last month after securing a one-year deal with Fiorentina.
The couple also lived apart for the majority of the shot-stopper’s time in the Premier League, with Edurne making regular visits to England and joining her husband to live in the north west for a year in 2018.
And discussing the unconventional arrangement, Edurne told Spanish news outlet Vanitatis: “We are doing very well, we are very happy and we have not separated and there is no crisis. I have already said that because every time we do something there is a revolution.

“We are happier and more in love than the first day we met. We have been like this for 14 years. Distance is not a problem, we live our life at a distance because our work has required it. It has happened that his work is outside of Spain and mine is in Madrid.”
Edurne, 38, is a Spanish singer, actress and television presenter. She has been a judge on Spain’s Got Talent for the last nine years after representing her country at Eurovision in 2015, where she finished 21st with her song Amanecer. She gave birth to the couple’s first child Yanay in 2021.
De Gea met his wife in December 2010 during a charity recording of A Christmas Carol to raise money for children with cancer. He joined United seven months after their first date and was said to be earning £375,000 a week by the time he left the club.
The veteran was snapped up by Fiorentina after rejecting a move to the Saudi Pro League.
He made his debut for the Italian club during their UEFA Conference League first leg play-off draw with Puskas Akademia and was named man-of-the-match in the second leg as his team won on penalties, despite being reduced to nine men.
De Gea is yet to make an appearance in Serie A, however, with uncapped Italian goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano being preferred between the sticks.
