Rio Ferdinand was subject to teasing from Micah Richards after his Instagram antics
Micah Richards had a laugh at Rio Ferdinand’s expense after the latter seemingly showcased his sculpted physique intentionally in a photo. Richards, the former Manchester City ace turned television regular, is renowned for his unabashedly authentic persona, winning him legions of fans with his hearty humour and larger-than-life character.
He’s never been one to shy away from a chuckle, whether that’s directed towards himself or others. That was a fact not lost on Manchester United legend Ferdinand, as he discovered after he posted a video interview on social media back in 2022.
In the background of Ferdinand’s screen, Richards caught sight of a notably topless portrait displaying Ferdinand in all his muscular glory. The quick-witted pundit speculated that Ferdinand strategically placed the picture within view, cheekily commenting on the post: “Accidentally on purpose, ain’t fooling me.”
Richards was but one of many who commented on this, joined by a portion of Ferdinand’s 6.5million Instagram followers who enjoyed ribbing the United icon, reports the Mirror. The ex-England international, 36, has a knack for dishing out banter to his fellow pundit, as exemplified in his gentle mockery pointed at Roy Keane when the Irish football legend joined Instagram at the start of the year.
In an X post back in February, Richards wrote: “I can confirm it’s the real @officialkeane16,” adding that he was told “nobody will agree to make our road trip series unless he’s on @instagram so here he is! You can also expect behind the scenes footage of my kit man duties when he gets a job again. #roykeane #skysports”.
Despite being tied to different media outfits, with Richards a staple on Sky and BBC while Ferdinand shines on TNT Sports, they reached consensus regarding Ruben Amorim’s top priority signing for Manchester United.
The well-placed snap was in shot for Ferdinand’s video
Both concur that Sporting Lisbon ace Viktor Gyokeres should be the prime target for the Portuguese boss. Sharing his insights with TNT Sports, the United stalwart stated: “Managers when they leave clubs, there’s always one of two players, you know, I’ve got to take that.
“Who is that guy going to be, if he’s going to take someone from Sporting Lisbon? After the way [Gyokeres] was playing in the last few weeks, 11 [goals] in five games, is he going to be the number one target for the new manager of Man United?” On The Rest is Football podcast, Alan Shearer spoke emphatically about United’s dire need for a frontline striker, an opinion Richards agreed with.
