Manchester United have reportedly identified Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson as a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, with the England star’s Red Devils career consistently hindered by his injury woes.

Shaw has missed the opening three games of the Premier League season with a calf injury he picked up during pre-season, after returning from another long-term fitness issue to play for his country at Euro 2024.

Tyrell Malacia did not make a single appearance last season and remains absent, but with United needing to raise funds in order to match Fulham’s £30million valuation, Express Sport takes a look at how they may lower that asking price by sending a player in the opposite direction.

Luke Shaw

A fresh start may be exactly what Shaw needs after being plagued by injuries throughout his decade at Old Trafford. United looking into a replacement may even spell the end for the England international, who is unlikely to want to play second-fiddle to Robinson.

Regular Premier League football will be desired in order to keep his place in the international setup and if Robinson completes a move to United, Fulham will be searching for his replacement.

Shaw heading in the opposite direction could suit all parties, though a compromise will likely have to be made by the player regarding his wages.

Victor Lindelof

Victor Lindelof is out of favour under Erik ten Hag and his unspecified injury, picked up in the Red Devils’ final pre-season game, continues to keep him away from matchday squads.

With Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez all likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order, a January exit is likely.

Fulham have signed Joachim Anderson and Jorg Cuenca to help ease the pain of losing Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream, but another experienced Premier League centre-back such as Lindelof may still appeal to Marco Silva.

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is another player who has struggled to make an impact this season for United and had been linked with a return to Ajax throughout the transfer window.

His contract expires at the end of the season and he will be free to talk with foreign clubs regarding a pre-contractual agreement in January, but he could help Fulham’s attack and knit together their young core.

Emile Smith Rowe joined the likes of Adama Traore, Alex Iwobi and Andreas Pereira behind Rodrigo Muniz, but Eriksen showed at Brentford how successful he can be when leading an offence and United can shave a fraction of Robinson’s asking price off.
