Manchester United may have been offered the chance to solve their midfield dilemma thanks to West Ham’s interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Red Devils have been one of the busiest Premier League outfits since the transfer window opened, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s major shake-up starting to take shape.

United have already announced the signing of Joshua Zirzkee from Bologna in a deal worth £36.5million to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund, with Leny Yoro joining the club to inject some star quality into Erik ten Hag’s backline.

United have now turned their attention to solving their midfield conundrum, with finding a defensive-minded player to partner Kobbie Mainoo next season viewed as a priority. PSG ace Manuel Ugarte and Benfica’s Joao Neves are among their considerations.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are also interested in West Ham’s Edson Alvarez after his impressive debut campaign at the London Stadium.

Therefore, the Hammers coming forward to open talks for Wan-Bissaka could be music to the ears of those at Old Trafford given that the interest could open up an opportunity for a swap deal to be agreed upon.

Ten Hag has made it no secret that he enjoys reuniting players that he has worked with previously, and Alvarez therefore fits the bill in that regard after spending three seasons working with the 54-year-old at Ajax.

Persuading West Ham to part ways with the Mexican international will be no easy feat for Ratcliffe and co, but the Red Devils are now aware that they have a makeweight available to them in negotiations that Julen Lopetegui is keen to work with.

Earlier this week, talkSPORT reported that the Hammers have opened talks to attempt to strike a deal for the ex-Crystal Palace defender, with United willing to part ways with the right-back if they receive an offer in surplus of £15m.

After being somewhat priced out of a move for Kyle Walker-Peters by Southampton, United will be aware that West Ham are very keen to bring in a new right-back and therefore they do hold plenty of power in negotiations if they were to suggest a player-plus-cash deal for Alvarez.

With Mason Greenwood set to put pen to paper with Marseille, funds will not be an issue for the Red Devils when it comes to coughing up an additional fee to get the deal over the line – though they may be keen to offload Casemiro first before bringing in his replacement.
