Manchester United stars past and present have been shining on international duty this week. Bruno Fernandes was on target for Portugal in their 2-1 victory over Scotland on Sunday – a Nations League match in which former Red Devils stars Scott McTominay and Cristiano Ronaldo also scored.

New striker Joshua Zirkzee also struck his first goal for the Netherlands over the weekend. However, defender Matthijs de Ligt was blamed for both of Bosnia & Herzegovina’s goals in the Dutch’s 5-2 triumph.

Back home, Erik ten Hag is carefully plotting a route out of a difficult start to the Premier League season. There is already a must-win feel around Saturday’s visit to Southampton.

Morgan takes aim at Ten Hag

Piers Morgan took a swipe at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 132nd international goal on Sunday night. Ronaldo popped up with the winning strike two minutes from time as Portugal defeated Scotland 2-1 in the Nations League.

Ten Hag and Ronaldo briefly worked together at Old Trafford, with United agreeing to terminate the player’s contract in the autumn of 2022 after he had lashed out at the Dutchman during an interview with Morgan.

The former Good Morning Britain host took to X after Ronaldo’s winning goal against Scotland and uploaded a picture of himself sitting alongside the forward as he captioned the post: “REMINDER: Erik ten Hag drove @Cristiano out of Manchester United and said he wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. Methinks Erik may need an Ambien tonight.”

Rashford puts the hard yards in

Marcus Rashford has been hard at work after being snubbed by England and released a training video to showcase how determined he is to rescue his career at Old Trafford following a disappointing start to the campaign.

Having missed out on England’s 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, Rashford was putting in the effort on the training pitch with RH Elite Coaching in Manchester.

The winger could be seen working on his free-kicks, shooting, dribbling and conditioning during a video which he posted to his 17 million Instagram followers captioned: “Raw material.”

Man Utd ‘to hold talks’ with free agent

Manchester United bosses are reportedly set to hold talks with free agent Adrien Rabiot and his entourage about a potential contract.

The 29-year-old is a long-standing United target and remains without a club since leaving Juventus at the end of last season.

He has already turned down offers from the Saudi Pro League and Galatasaray, possibly with an eye on staying in the elite European divisions.

According to the Daily Star, the Red Devils are due to hold talks with Rabiot.

Man Utd stars past and present shine in Benfica

Every scorer in Scotland’s Nations League clash with Portugal had links with Manchester United.

Former midfielder Scott McTominay, who departed for Napoli in the summer, opened the scoring with his 10th international goal.

United captain Bruno Fernandes equalised for Portugal, who won the match late on through none other than Red Devils icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

Man Utd announce exciting Old Trafford update

Man Utd have formed a strategic partnership with the city’s authorities to maximise growth and regeneration opportunities as part of their plans to redevelop their Old Trafford home.

Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority have joined with the Premier League club to create an advisory team, which will be led by an independent director.

The team will oversee plans to transform the Old Trafford area.

Lord Coe, chair of the Task Force, said: “The objective of this once-in-a-generation project is not only the development of a world-class stadium for the north of England, but also to ensure that this brings broad social and economic benefits to the local area and surrounding region.

“There is a huge opportunity to connect Trafford Wharfside regeneration with the ongoing growth of neighbouring Media City in Salford, and Greater Manchester’s Western Gateway and Central Growth Cluster plans, to create a project of national significance.

“The tripartite advisory team will help fully unlock this incredibly exciting potential.”

Antony ‘pushing’ for Man Utd exit

Man Utd star Antony is reportedly pushing for an exit from Old Trafford.

The winger has been linked with a loan switch to Jose Mourinho-managed Fenerbahce.

According to the Sun, Antony is keen on a loan to find regular football and may even have played his last game for the club.

When do Man Utd play next?

Man Utd players will return from international duty this week.

Erik ten Hag is under pressure to turn around a disappointing start to the season.

United will hope for a better result against Southampton on Saturday.

The Premier League clash is the early kick-off, starting at 12:30pm.

Dan Ashworth ‘hurt’ by rival’s comments

Man Utd sporting director Dan Ashworth is reportedly ‘hurt’ by comments made by Newcastle counterpart Paul Mitchell.

Ashworth joined United from Newcastle during the summer after a drawn-out saga.

Mitchell has since stepped into Ashworth’s role and the Magpies struggled during the transfer window, failing to land top target Marc Guehi.

The Newcastle chief questioned whether the club’s transfer strategy, which he inherted from Ashworth, was fit for purpose.

The Telegraph reports that Ashworth has been hurt by the comments, having previously been close with Mitchell.

How can Erik ten Hag save his job?

Man Utd are keen to insist that patience will be shown in Erik ten Hag despite two defeats in their opening three Premier League matches.

However, results must improve if the Dutchman is to have a long-term future in the Old Trafford dugout.

Express Sport had a look at three things that might need to happen for Ten Hag to turn around United’s start to the season.

Erik ten Hag suffers another defeat

Erik ten Hag has suffered yet another defeat.

The Man Utd boss returned to Utrecht to manage his former side in Mark van der Maarel’s testimonial.

Ten Hag was in charge of a team of former Utrecht players against the club’s current squad.

The ex-stars fell to a 2-1 defeat despite Van der Maarel scoring a late consolation.

Ten Hag will now return to Manchester to plan how he will turn around a tough start to the season. The Red Devils have won just three points from their first three matches.

Andre Onana told Man Utd job ‘not for you’

Andre Onana has been told the “job is not for you” if the Cameroon goalkeeper cannot handle the pressure at Man Utd.

The former Ajax and Inter Milan shot-stopper endured a shaky start at Old Trafford but is now replicating some of his best form.

Former United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard told the Mirror: “Onana has come back from a difficult start and now he is doing a lot better. But there’s no magic formula to overcome that pressure.

“That is the job. The job is to handle that pressure. If you can’t do it, or you won’t do it, the job is not for you.”

Bruno Fernandes rages

Bruno Fernandes raged at Aston Villa star John McGinn during Portugal’s victory over Scotland.

In a bizarre incident, the Man Utd midfielder was adjudged to have fouled McGinn but was booked for his protests.

Fernandes believed he had been tripped by Scotland’s Ryan Gauld, prompting him to fall into McGinn.

But instead of ripping into referee Maurizio Mariani, the 30-year-old midfielder took his anger out on a bemused McGinn.
