Express Sport looks at how the Red Devils could line up against Leicester
Ruud van Nistelrooy will be looking to finish his spell in charge of Manchester United on a positive note with victory over Leicester City. They put the Foxes to the sword in the Carabao Cup last month and will be hoping for a repeat performance on Sunday.
United will be the overwhelming favourites to claim all three points, with an optimistic mood around the place ahead of Ruben Amorim’s impending arrival. Their players will also be high on confidence after beating PAOK in the Europa League in midweek.
Leicester, however, are capable of springing a surprise and it will be crucial for United to avoid falling into the trap of complacency.
Express Sport takes a look at how the Red Devils could line up this weekend…
Amad Diallo is a doubt to face the Foxes after picking up a knock against PAOK
Man Utd predicted XI vs Leicester
Goalkeeper – Onana
Andre Onana was heavily criticised at times last season but has fared better this time around despite conceding 12 league goals. He remains the undisputed first-choice stopper at Old Trafford and that is unlikely to change on Sunday.
Defence – Dalot, De Ligt, Martinez, Mazraoui
Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt should return to United’s back line at the expense of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, meanwhile, are the standout options in the full-back positions.
United are still juggling a number of defensive injuries, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Leny Yoro all sidelined.
Midfield – Casemiro, Ugarte, Fernandes
Casemiro scored a screamer against Leicester in the Carabao Cup and will be hoping to put in another strong display this weekend. He is likely to be partnered in the engine room by Manuel Ugarte with Kobbie Mainoo nursing a muscular problem.
Bruno Fernandes will take up his usual creative role slightly further forward and will be looking to make things happen in the final third.
Attack – Garnacho, Rashford, Hojlund
Amad Diallo bagged a brace against PAOK in midweek but picked up a knock and is a doubt to face Leicester. If he is ruled out of the fixture, Marcus Rashford could return to the side with Alejandro Garnacho on the opposite flank.
Rasmus Hojlund has established himself as United’s first-choice striker ahead of Joshua Zirkzee and is likely to get the nod to start on Sunday.
Predicted Man Utd XI: Onana; Dalot, De Ligt, Martinez, Mazraoui; Casemiro, Ugarte; Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund.
