Express Sport brings you all the latest Manchester United transfer news
Manchester United kicked the new Premier League campaign off with a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Friday night. And it was summer signing Joshua Zirkzee who proved to be the matchwinner as the striker came off the bench to turn the ball into the back of the net three minutes before the end.
Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has been busy in the transfer market this summer following an underwhelming season last time around.
And the Dutchman gifted Noussair Mazraoui a start at right-back, while Matthijs de Ligt also made an appearance off the bench.
There was no place for centre-back Leny Yoro, however, with the former Lille star undergoing surgery on his foot after suffering an injury during the pre-season friendly against Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Mason Greenwood, enjoyed a sensational start to his Marseille career after bagging two goals and an assist during his side’s 5-1 thrashing of Brest on Saturday.
The 22-year-old left Old Trafford on a permanent basis over the summer following a successful loan spell at Getafe.

Angel Gomes provides injury update
Manchester United academy graduate Angel Gomes has provided an update after suffering a scary head injury on Saturday.
Gomes was playing for Lille in their Ligue 1 match against Stade de Reims when he collided with Amadou Kone during an aerial duel in the 11th minute.
The 23-year-old midfielder was stretchered off and taken to hospital for further treatment. He has now confirmed that he has returned to his home.
“Just a message to let everyone know that I’m all good!,” Gomes wrote on Instagram.
“The support has been overwhelming, and I just Thank God everything is okay, love and blessings! P.S. Remind me not to jump for no more headers.”
Facundo Pellistri in advanced exit talks
Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is in advanced talks to join Greek side Panathinaikos on a permanent transfer.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Pellistri could leave United in the coming days.
The 22-year-old has left on three separate loan spells since his £9m arrival in 2020 and doesn’t appear to feature in Erik ten Hag’s plans.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Amad, Antony and Jadon Sancho are all ahead of Pellistri in the wing pecking order.
Man Utd given Toney green light
Manchester United have been given the green light to thrash out a deal for Ivan Toney after the striker was left out of Brentford’s squad for their clash with Crystal Palace.
The Red Devils were thought to be chasing the England international earlier in the summer and are believed to be interested in the star once again as they search for another frontman ahead of the summer transfer deadline.
“A lot of things are going on with Ivan,” Brentford boss Thomas Frank told Sky Sports ahead of his side’s Premier League opener. “There is some transfer interest and so we decided not to involve him in the squad. I can’t give too much away. There is interest, but a deal is not closed.
“Ivan is a top player. He’s been fantastic for us over four years – but we also showed, last year especially, that we can win without him.”

Man Utd hero issues say on summer signings
Manchester United hero Ryan Giggs is pleased the club have made signings who “can’t wait to play” for the Red Devils. United boss Erik ten Hag has been busy in the transfer market this summer, landing Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich earlier this week after already snapping up Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee.
In a conversation with YouTube fan channel Webby & O’Neill, Giggs was asked if he thought the new signings could make an impact at United and responded: “I do. I think they’ve played at big clubs.
“What I like is that they look young, hungry and they look as though they want to come and play for the club. Everything that I’ve seen, these players can’t wait to play for Manchester United and see it as an honour.
“There isn’t much being made about how much they’re being paid. I think we’ve paid too much [in the past] in transfer fees and wages for players who weren’t good enough, whereas now I don’t know if it’s Dan Ashworth or Jason Wilcox, we’re getting players in who want to play for Man United.
“They’re not hanging about wanting more money. The transfers have been done quickly so for me that’s a clear sign that they want to come to United.”
Man Utd suffer De Jong blow
Manchester United appear to be unlikely to sign long-term target Frenkie de Jong this summer as his Barcelona team-mate Ilkay Gundogan has told club chiefs he wants to leave, according to Spanish publication Sport.
If Gundogan does depart the Nou Camp, Barcelona would probably hold onto De Jong to ensure they aren’t left short of numbers.
De Jong played under United boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax before leaving the Dutch club to join Barca in 2019.
Man Utd target secures transfer
AC Milan have completed the transfer of Youssouf Fofana, who was previously linked with a move to Manchester United as an alternative to Manuel Ugarte.
And after putting pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at the San Siro, the 25-year-old midfielder said: “When the club is looking for you like AC Milan was looking for me, it’s obvious you want to go there. This is the right moment, for me and the squad now I am a complete player.
“I want to play in the Champions League and win the Scudetto, I cannot wait to start. The project I saw from the club aligns with my ideas.”
Man Utd could hijack Liverpool deal
Manchester United could hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to The Mirror.
The Georgian shot-stopper, who starred at Euro 2024, has reportedly already agreed terms with Liverpool but is said to be open to a move to Old Trafford instead.
But United need to get a player off their wage bill ahead of any transfer, with Jadon Sancho a candidate to depart the club following his loan spell with Borussia Dortmund last season.

Greenwood branded ‘exceptional’
Mason Greenwood has been branded “exceptional” after bagging two goals and an assist against Brest on his Ligue 1 debut for Marseille on Saturday.
The French club landed the striker from Manchester United ahead of the new campaign after the ace had spent last season on loan at Getafe.
“Mason Greenwood is just exceptional,” stated Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi, who was in charge of Brighton last season. “He’s an excellent player and you can see that. I’m happy to see him scoring.”
Fiorentina show interest in Lindelof
Serie A giants Fiorentina are interested in signing Victor Lindelof, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The centre-back has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this summer following the arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.
Fiorentina are exploring the possible conditions of a move, with the ace’s contract in England expiring next summer.
McTominay makes Napoli demand
Manchester United star Scott McTominay has told Napoli boss Antonio Conte that he wants to move to the Serie A club this summer, according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
Napoli are said to be chasing the midfielder’s signature and have reportedly made contact over a move.
McTominay came off the bench for the final six minutes of United’s Premier League opener on Friday night as his side defeated Fulham 1-0.
Man Utd placed on red alert
Manchester United have been placed on red alert after Paris Saint-Germain decided to leave Manuel Ugarte out of their squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre on Friday night.
The midfielder is said to be United’s top target, with today’s edition of Sunday World reporting that the Premier League giants are working on a deal.
Meanwhile, HITC have claimed that Ugarte’s representatives are confident the player will complete a move to Old Trafford before the transfer deadline.
