Chido Obi Martin has sparked excitement on social media by sending Manchester United left-back Harry Amass a message as he prepares to complete his move to the club. United are set to land Obi Martin this week after the wonderkid rejected a new contract at Arsenal and picked Old Trafford as his preferred destination.

The 16-year-old striker generated hype en masse with his exploits last season, scoring 32 goals in 18 U18 Premier League appearances.

He also made headlines by netting an astounding 10 times in the same match against United’s bitter rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils have reportedly won the race for Obi Martin’s signature, fending off intense competition, including more lucrative financial offers from Germany.

And the teenage sensation is claimed to be arriving at Carrington this week to undergo his medical and put pen to paper on his contract.

Obi Martin is expected to feature for United’s U21 side predominantly this season. But he will likely regularly train with Erik ten Hag’s squad after being promised a clear pathway to senior football.

Amass is primed for the same routine after regular pre-season minutes and is almost certain to be among the starlets who add to United’s 250 academy graduates in the coming months.

The pair are bound to share plenty of game time on the pitch together at United this summer and beyond, and they appear to have a relationship already.

Following Sunday’s final pre-season outing, a 3-0 defeat against Liverpool in Columbia, Amass shared a post on Instagram looking back at his involvement throughout the United States tour.

The 17-year-old captioned a series of images – including duels with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Real Betis’ Hector Bellerin – ‘LA Tour [USA flag emoji].

Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho were among the first-team stars to like his post, and Obi Martin got involved in the comments, dropping a fire emoji to show his respect.

Shea Lacey, Toby Collyer and Ethan Wheatley were three of several United youngsters who also showed their support.

But Obi Martin’s comment accumulated the most likes among them all, indicating the excitement about his highly-anticipated arrival across the fanbase.

The former Gunners prospect could break onto the senior scene early into his United career, with Ten Hag reportedly viewing him as his third-choice striker behind Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

He will undoubtedly be keen to continue riding the hype wave he has generated at Hale End before making his mark.
