Manchester United are edging closer to signing Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his squad in the weeks ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils have been working on a deal to reunite Mazraoui with his former boss at Old Trafford, having worked under Ten Hag while the pair were at Ajax.

There had been concerns about a potential delay to the deal for the 26-year-old, but it now appears the Premier League side are now moving closer to finalising a deal with Bayern.

According to Foot Mercato, United have ‘informed’ the Morocco international that the transfer will go through and is ‘almost complete’, as they prepare for a new round of talks with their German counterparts.

The club have already agreed a fee in the region of £15million, with add-ons potentially taking the transfer nearer to £20m. Mazraoui will be waiting to receive approval to seal his move, having agreed personal terms on a five-year contract.

While Bayern Munich travelled to South Korea on Wednesday afternoon for their pre-season tour with Mazraoui included in the travelling party, it is unlikely that a transfer was imminent at that point.

The deal reportedly hinged on whether United could sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham United, who had initially agreed a deal to sign Mazraoui before he turned down a move to London in favour of Manchester.

But now that Wan-Bissaka has given the green light to clinch a £15m move to the London Stadium, United are now well positioned to seal Mazraoui’s move to England in the coming days.

Mazraoui joined Bayern on a free transfer in 2022 but has only been a rotational player for the German giants, making 55 appearances in two seasons at the Allianz Arena.

Mazraoui would become the third summer signing since INEOS’ investment in the club, with Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee arriving for a total outlay of around £92m. He would become the sixth player to sign for the United coach having already worked with him previously in his career.

PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte is thought to be Ten Hag’s next target after Mazraoui, with the Dutchman keen to bring in reinforcements following their seventh-placed finish in 2023-24.

United are currently in the USA on their pre-season tour after beating Real Betis 3-2 on Wednesday. They will face Liverpool on August 4 ahead of the Community Shield in nine days’ time.

It remains to be seen whether Mazraoui will be signed in time for the latter, but the move is now expected to gather pace towards being completed.
