Almost a week has passed since the summer transfer window opened for Premier League clubs, and there have been very few major moves in the background of Euro 2024. However, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs hard at work behind the scenes, lining up deals to complete in the coming weeks.

United are working to recruit Raphael Varane’s long-term successor at the same time as pursuing a new central midfielder and striker to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s spine.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is eyeing midfield and attacking upgrades as he explores ways to finally get the better of Manchester City in the Premier League title race next season.

Chelsea have already completed one signing – Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer – but are making efforts to add attacking reinforcements to Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Arne Slot has arrived in Liverpool, and he will undoubtedly be supporting the club’s recruitment in his first summer after replacing Jurgen Klopp.

The summer transfer window for European clubs opens on July 1, which should accelerate the volume of deals being completed.

Brighton in talks for wonderkid

Brighton and Hove Albion have reportedly opened talks to sign IFK Goteborg wonderkid Malick Junior Yalcouye.

According to CaughtOffside, Goteborg want around £6m for the 18-year-old midfielder, and Brighton and Southampton have already had bids rejected.

Brentford, Ajax, Gent, Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven have also been touted as suitors.

Chelsea pushing for Trevoh Chalobah exit

Chelsea are pushing to sell Trevoh Chalobah amid strong interest in the 24-year-old defender, according to reports.

HITC claim that Chelsea want to cash in on academy graduates Chalobah, Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja.

But Chalobah reportedly doesn’t want to leave Stamford Bridge.

Man Utd interested in Edson Alvarez

Manchester United have identified Edson Alvarez as a potential replacement for Casemiro this summer, according to reports.

Fabrizio Romano claims that United have discussed the West Ham United midfielder internally as they prepare to sell Casemiro.

Erik ten Hag is said to appreciate Alvarez after coaching him across three seasons at Ajax.

But West Ham consider the 26-year-old a crucial player and would likely resist any interest.

Everton agree Tim Iroegbunam deal

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It’s claimed the 20-year-old will join Everton for around £9million as Sean Dyche bolsters his engine room.

Iroegbunam made nine Premier League appearances last season.

Leicester appoint Steve Cooper

Leicester City have unveiled Steve Cooper as the club’s new manager ahead of their Premier League return.

Graham Potter was heavily linked with the Foxes job, but they have appointed the former Nottingham Forest boss.

Cooper said: “I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s First Team Manager. This is a fantastic Club with a rich history and passionate supporters.

“I am excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League.”

Arne Slot on Liverpool transfer operations

Arne Slot has offered some insight into how Liverpool’s new recruitment set-up will work after being unveiled as the club’s head coach.

He said: “Me and Richard [Hughes] are going to work together when it comes to transfers but not only the two of us – there is a big backroom staff included in this as well.

“I think for me it is the way I have worked always and it for me is the ideal way of working because I can use most of my time by working with the team.

“The time that is left will probably be a bit for the family and a bit to talk with Richard about how we can strengthen the team. But we already have a really strong team.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe reveals Jean-Clair Todibo blow

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has revealed that UEFA have blocked Jean-Clair Todibo’s transfer from Nice.

The Red Devils had identified Todibo as a centre-back target but will play in the Europa League with Nice next season.

And that has given UEFA reason to block the deal.

He told Bloomberg: “We have a player at Nice, I’m not going to say his name, who is really interested in joining Manchester United and who has the ability to be a Manchester United player.

“They [UEFA] told us we can’t sell him to United. They’ve said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can’t sell to Manchester United.

“But that’s not fair on the player and I don’t see what that achieves.”

Chelsea’s £40m masterplan

Chelsea could save £40m on Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran this summer by offering a straight swap deal.

Villa are reportedly closing in on a deal for Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen, beating Borussia Dortmund to his signature.

Meanwhile, the Blues are interested in Duran, who Villa are willing to cash in on should a suitable offer arrive.

Given Chelsea value Maatsen similar to Duran, a swap deal could be struck to help both clubs save money.

Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi offer

Arsenal have proposed a salary to Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi if they decides to join the club this summer.

The Gunners have made the offer as Mikel Arteta turns to his boyhood club for upgrades in his engine room.

However, Football Transfers claim that there is frustration at the Emirates Stadium over Zubimendi not responding to the terms.

Zubimendi has a £52m release clause in his contract but may not be keen on a switch.

UEFA block Jean-Clair Todibo transfer

Manchester United won’t be able to sign Jean-Clair Todibo this summer due to UEFA rules.

Todibo plays for Nice – owned by INEOS – and was thought to be a prime alternative centre-back option to Jarrad Branthwaite.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United and Nice both playing in the Europa League next season means a potential deal is off.

Talks were said to be advanced for months but now appear highly unlikely to result in a deal.
